Choose a goal and tutor buddy
Choose the teaching approach that fits the work you are doing. TutorMigo offers subject choices, learning goals, and tutor personalities during session setup.
Match the goal to the task
Section titled “Match the goal to the task”| Goal | A useful request |
|---|---|
| Explain | “Show why fractions need a common denominator.” |
| Practice | “Give me one question at a time and wait for my attempt.” |
| Quiz | “Check what I remember about photosynthesis.” |
| Check | “Find the first mistake in my working.” |
| Socratic | “Guide me with questions before giving a hint.” |
| Review | “Help me review this draft and explain what to improve.” |
Labels and availability vary with the learner’s grade. Time crunch is an optional Grade 9–12 goal; see the Time crunch guide.
Choose a buddy
Section titled “Choose a buddy”Use the buddy or persona choice offered during setup. Choose a style you find comfortable, then tell the tutor if you want a slower pace or a different example. A buddy’s personality does not replace your choice of subject or learning goal.
Change your approach
Section titled “Change your approach”You can ask for a different explanation within the same conversation: “Use a diagram,” “Ask me a question,” or “Give me one smaller step.” Start a new session when you change to an unrelated topic.
Next: Start a lesson.
Grade-specific starting goals
Section titled “Grade-specific starting goals”| Grade band | Starting goals in the reviewed Study Studio |

| 6–8 | Learn, Practice, Quiz, Check work, Test review |

A goal button starts a session. Socratic requests question-led teaching, Check asks for your reasoning, and Review in the older-student lobby uses the writing workshop. The displayed subject and grade determine which quick starts you see.
Set up a more specific session
Section titled “Set up a more specific session”Use the expanded setup when you need to choose a topic, buddy, expertise level, and explanation style before starting. The reviewed style choices are Direct, Step-by-step, In-depth, and Guide me. Review the setup summary before opening the session.
Subject-specific quick starts include Build a project, Debug my code, Explain code, and Interview prep for Coding; Essay help, Grammar check, and Analyze a text for English; and Practice conversation, Build vocabulary, and Translate & explain for Languages. Use the prompt that matches your actual task, then add your attempt or source material.
